  • How retaining walls work

    Retaining walls function by providing support to vertical slopes of soil. The soil that is retained by the wall, sometimes called backfill, is pushed by gravity towards its natural shape. By installing a retaining wall, the soil is held in place and the original slope is replaced with a graded, flat area which is easier to utilize for landscaping projects, yard usage, and many other functions.

    Gravity Walls

    Blue Isle Landscaping primarily constructs gravity walls. This type of retaining wall utilizes the weight of the concrete or stone structure to hold back the sloping soil. Gravity walls are typically shorter in height in order to safely hold the soil from collapsing the wall. For this reason, they are ideal for yard landscaping and aesthetic purposes: easy to engineer and visually appealing stone and concrete designs.
